Biography of Francisco de Goya
Born March 30, 1746in Aragon, Spain
In 1763,he tried to enter the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid but failed. He thenstudied under Francisco Bayeu .
In 1799he was appointed court painter to the Spanish royal family.
Died in Bordeauxon April 16, 1828

His early works were mainly portraits and religious paintings influenced by neoclassicism, but in his later years he switched to a freer style and painted sharply critical images of real society. In particular, his "Disasters of War" series is a masterpiece that vividly depicts human cruelty and suffering. In his later years, he also produced humorous caricatures, and his wide-ranging works had a profound influence on art from the 19th century onwards.
