Eugène Delacroix Biography

Born April 26, 1798 in Saint-Maurice, France
In 1815, he entered the École des Beaux-Arts (National School of Fine Arts) and studied under Pierre-Narcisse Guérin.
In 1822, his painting "Dante's Boat" was highly praised at the Salon, and he attracted attention as an up-and-coming painter.
In 1824, he established himself as a standard-bearer of Romanticism with The Massacre at Chios.
In 1830, he created his masterpiece, "Liberty Leading the People."
From the 1830s onwards, he produced many works inspired by Orientalism and literary works, making use of his experiences traveling in Morocco.
In his later years, he also worked on decorative paintings for Paris City Hall and the Luxembourg Palace.
Died in Paris on August 13, 1863 (aged 65)
