Having worked as an engineer in Egypt, conducted archaeological excavations in the Nile Valley, and even adopted an Egyptian name, Prisse d'Avennes expressed his profound understanding of the culture through his architectural designs and vivid local illustrations. Emile Pris-Davenne Biography

Born in Avène , France in 1807 .
After a military career, he turned to Egyptology.
He arrived in Egypt in 1827 and was employed as an engineer at the Egyptian Military Academy.
During the 1830s and 1840s, he investigated and recorded numerous ruins and artifacts in Egypt.
He took the Egyptian name Idris Effendi, learned Arabic, and practiced Islam, becoming deeply integrated into Egyptian culture.
In the late 1840s, he returned to France and published monographs and illustrations on Egyptian art.
He died in 1879 (aged 72).
