Emile Pris-Davenne Biography

• Born in Avène , France in 1807 .
• After a military career, he turned to Egyptology.
• He arrived in Egypt in 1827 and was employed as an engineer at the Egyptian Military Academy.
• During the 1830s and 1840s, he investigated and recorded numerous ruins and artifacts in Egypt.
• He took the Egyptian name Idris Effendi, learned Arabic, and practiced Islam, becoming deeply integrated into Egyptian culture.
• In the late 1840s, he returned to France and published monographs and illustrations on Egyptian art.
• He died in 1879 (aged 72).
