The Birds of America(アメリカの鳥たち)
『アメリカの鳥類』は、熱心な鳥類愛好家であり芸術家でもあったジョン・ジェームズ・オーデュボン（1785-1851）の視点を通して鳥の世界を覗き込む作品です。北米全土に生息する素晴らしい鳥たちが、1827年に出版された彼の代表作『アメリカの鳥類』のリトグラフを通じて生き生きと描かれています。
ジョン・ジェームズ・オーデュボン 経歴
- 1785年4月26日、フランス領サン＝ドマング（現在のハイチ）に生まれる
- 幼少期から鳥類に興味を持ち、自然の中で観察を続ける
- 1803年、アメリカに移住
- 1820年代、北米各地を旅し、鳥類の観察とスケッチを行う
- 1827年から1838年にかけて、『アメリカの鳥類』を出版
- 1851年1月27日、ニューヨークで死去（享年65歳）

オーデュボンの画風と業績
