First selected for the Salon d'Auburn in 1911
He became a representative artist of the Art Deco style in the 1920s.
From around 1932, he moved his base of operations to the United States.
Died February 28, 1932, Massachusetts

Barbier's work is characterized by clarity of line and decorativeness. His modern and stylish fashion illustrations are strongly influenced by the Art Deco style. His geometric designs and vivid colors are eye-catching.

In the 1920s, he created many cover art for fashion magazines, helping to popularize the Art Deco style. In his later years, he moved to America, where he worked on Art Deco illustrations and book design. While he painted images of urban, modern women, he also left behind works with an oriental, dreamlike worldview. Barbier is highly regarded as a representative artist of Art Deco art.
