• Born January 3, 1887 in Meschede, Germany.
• From 1904 to 1906 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf.
• In 1907, he moved to Paris and was influenced by Impressionism and Fauvism.
• In 1910, he met Wassily Kandinsky and joined the Blue Rider group.
• In 1912, he took part in the "Blue Rider" exhibition.
• He was killed in action during World War I on September 26, 1914 (aged 27).
