- Studied at the Calabri School of Painting in Geneva
- Attended veterinary school in Paris and studied animal anatomy
- In 1800, he moved to London and began his career as an animal painter.
- First exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1801
- He exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy and the Society of Painters in Watercolours until 1845.
- Died in London on December 27, 1849 (aged 82)
