Peter Paul Rubens was a Baroque painter from Flanders (now Belgium) who was active from the late 16th century to the early 17th century. • Born June 28, 1577 in Siegen, Germany.
• In 1587, he moved to Antwerp (now Belgium).
• In 1598 he was registered as a master painter with the Guild of St. Luke in Antwerp.
• From 1600 to 1608, he lived in Italy and studied Renaissance art.
• In 1609, he returned to Antwerp and worked as court painter.
• In the 1620s, he produced large series of paintings for King Philip IV of Spain and Queen Marie de' Medici of France .
• He died in Antwerp on May 30, 1640 (aged 62).
