Utagawa Toyokuni

Utagawa Toyokuni was an ukiyo-e artist from the late Edo period, and one of the great masters of the Utagawa school. He specialized in actor paintings, and his refined portraits of beautiful women and powerful expressions brightened the Edo theater world. • In 1786, he became a disciple of Utagawa Toyoharu.
