- Studied at the Art Academy in Helsinki in the late 1880s

- In the early 1900s, he returned to Finland and painted the Karelian landscapes and peasant life.
- Since the 1910s, he has established himself as a national painter.
- Died in Tuusula on December 1, 1933 (aged 68)
