Edvard Munch is a representative Norwegian painter active from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. He is known as a pioneer of Expressionism, using intense colors and distorted forms to express human anxieties, loneliness, and the fear of death.

Born December 12, 1863 in Roten, southeastern Norway.
In 1879 he entered the School of Arts and Crafts in Christiania (now Oslo).
In 1885, he went to Paris to study and was influenced by the Impressionists.
In 1892 he created his masterpiece, "The Scream"
Died on January 23, 1944 in Ekli near Oslo (aged 80)
