Lunoy's style and achievements
Lunoy's works are characterized by their delicate gradation, achieved through the use of the littint technique, and their poetic atmosphere. He creates a dreamlike world by enveloping landscapes and people in soft light and shadow . In particular, his works depicting the streets of Paris after the rain and the Seine River have been highly praised for their tranquil beauty.
Lunoy rediscovered the lithotint technique, which had been forgotten at the end of the 19th century, and revived it in modern times. He used this technique to pursue his own artistic expression, leaving behind many masterpieces. His works not only demonstrate the potential of the lithotint technique, but are also highly regarded for their artistic value.
Lunoy is one of the most important printmakers in the history of French art, and his works give us modern viewers a sense of a poetic world.
