Vilhelm Marstrand is one of Denmark's leading painters and illustrators of the 19th century. He worked in a wide range of genres, including historical paintings, genre paintings, and portraits, and is particularly known for his works depicting Danish history and culture. Wilhelm Marstrand Biography

  • Born December 24, 1810 in Copenhagen, Denmark
  • In 1826, he entered the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.
  • In the 1830s, he studied Renaissance art in Italy.
  • In the 1840s he returned to Denmark and produced historical and genre paintings.
  • From the 1850s onwards, he also worked as a portrait painter.
  • Died March 25, 1873, Copenhagen, Denmark (aged 62)
