- Born around 1267 in Vespignano, near Florence.
- Around 1280, he entered the Cimabue workshop and gained experience in painting.
- Around 1290-1295, he worked on the fresco decoration of the Upper Chapel of San Francesco in Assisi (the involvement of Giotto is debated)
- Around 1303-1305, he painted frescoes in the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua, depicting scenes from the Life of the Virgin Mary and the Life of Christ.
- After that, he produced works in various places such as Florence, Rome, and Naples.
- In 1334 he was appointed master architect of the Florence Cathedral and directed the construction of the bell tower.
