Goyo Hashiguchi

Goyo Hashiguchi was one of Japan's leading Western-style painters in the first half of the 20th century. He was highly praised for his realistic portraits and still lifes.

• Born on February 26, 1880 in Kanda Ward, Tokyo
• In 1899, he entered the Tokyo School of Fine Arts (now Tokyo University of the Arts).
• In the late 1920s, he produced many of his signature portraits and still lifes.
• Received the Roma Prize in 1921 and 1926
• Died in Tokyo on August 1, 1948 (aged 68)

Her representative work, "Knitting," is a tranquil portrait of an elderly woman knitting, meticulously depicting her figure. She was renowned for her realistic depiction, which faithfully reproduces every stitch of the stitch.
