Paul Signac
Paul Signac was a French painter active from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. He developed the pointillist technique and became a central figure in the Neo-Impressionist movement.
Paul Signac Biography
- Born in Paris on November 11, 1863
- Around 1884, he began to use pointillism and established the Neo-Impressionist technique.
- In 1886, he founded the Neo-Impressionist group with Henri Edmond Cros and Albert Dubois-Pillet.
- In 1892 he established himself as a pioneer of Neo-Impressionism.
- Died near Paris on August 15, 1935 (aged 71)
Representative works
- The Anoockoor at Aunay-sur-Ance (1887)
- The Pine Tree at St. Tropez (1909)
- The Demolisher and Pyramide du Louvre (1909)
- The Dining Room (1886)
Signac thoroughly pursued the scientific method of pointillism, eliminating the sense of perspective and placing complementary colored dots at equal intervals to create new harmonies of light and color.
In his early masterpiece, "The Pleasure Boat Anokkull," he established his colorful landscape expression using pointillism. In his later years, he stuck to the technique of capturing his subjects as a collection of tiny dots.
Signac developed the theoretical method of Pointillism and was a central figure in Neo-Impressionism, which later gave rise to such abstractions as Divisionism and Cubism.
