Kogyo Tsukioka

Tsukioka Kogyo was an ukiyo-e artist and Japanese painter active from the Meiji to Taisho periods . Influenced by his teacher Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, he produced many works based on Noh, earning him the nickname "master Noh artist." His works express the world of Noh with a rich sense of emotion , in a unique style that combines traditional ukiyo-e techniques with the realistic expression of Western painting.

Tsukioka Kogyo Biography

• Born on April 18, 1869 in Nihonbashi, Tokyo
• In 1880, he became a student of Yoshitoshi Tsukioka.
• After Yoshitoshi's death in 1892 , he studied under Ogata Gekko.
• From the late 1890s, he produced works based on Noh theatre.
• In 1904, he exhibited at the St. Louis World's Fair and won a bronze medal.
• Died on February 25, 1927 (aged 57)
