The Arabic Decoration

"Arabian Ornaments" is a collection of works by the French archaeologist and architect Émile Pris-d'Avennes (1807-1879) documenting the decorative patterns of Arab art. The lithographs depicting Arabic interior patterns have been digitally enhanced from the original 1885 edition, bringing their intricate beauty back to life in the present day.

Emile Pris-Davenne Biography

  • Born in Avène , France in 1807 .
  • After a military career, he turned to Egyptology.
  • During the 1830s and 1840s, he investigated and recorded numerous ruins and artifacts in Egypt.
  • In the late 1840s, he returned to France and published monographs and illustrations on Egyptian art.
  • He died in 1879 (aged 72).
