Frederic Edwin Church Biography

Born May 4, 1826 in Hartford, Connecticut, USA
From 1844 to 1846, he studied under Thomas Cole, the founder of the Hudson River School, learning the basics of landscape painting.
In 1848, he became a full member of the National Academy of Design.
From the 1850s onwards, he travelled to North America, South America, the Middle East and other regions, producing works based on the landscapes of these places.
In the 1860s, he established his reputation as a landscape painter, producing some of his best-known works, including "Niagara Falls" and "Heart of the Andes."
After the 1870s, he built a mansion called "Olana" in Hudson, New York, where he continued to create works until his later years.
Died April 7, 1900, in New York (aged 73)
