• Born in 1848 in County Tipperary, Ireland.
• He showed an interest in painting from an early age and studied at art school in Dublin.
• He emigrated to New Zealand in 1874 .

• In 1889, he published The Art Album of New Zealand Flora.
• He died in Auckland in 1927 (aged 79).
