Paul Gauguin Biography

Born in Paris on June 7, 1848
He spent his childhood in Peru, then returned to France and worked as a sailor.
Around 1871, while working as a stockbroker, he began painting in his spare time.
From the early 1880s onwards, he began to exhibit at Impressionist exhibitions.
In 1883, he left his job as a stockbroker to devote himself to painting.
In 1886, he visited Pont-Aven in Brittany and became acquainted with Emile Bernard and others.
In 1888, he lived with Van Gogh in Arles, but the relationship ended in failure.
In 1891, he traveled to Tahiti and established his own unique style of painting.
He returned to France for a time in 1893, but traveled to Tahiti again in 1895.
He spent his final years on the island of Hiva Oa in the Marquesas.
Died on May 8, 1903, at age 54, on the island of Hiva Oa.
