Denis's style and achievements
Denis's work is characterized by a flat, decorative style, vivid colors, and clear contours. He expressed symbolism and religious themes in his own unique way. His works may appear at first glance to be simplified in shape and color, but they contain deep spiritual and symbolic meanings.
As a central figure in the Nabis movement, Denis emphasized the importance of color in painting, and famously stated, "A painting is a flat surface covered with colors gathered in a certain order." His theories also influenced the later development of abstract painting.
Denis aimed to be a comprehensive artist, working not only in painting but also in decorative arts such as murals, stained glass, and tapestries. His works, which depict not only religious themes but also scenes from everyday life and family portraits, are loved by a wide range of people.
