Samuel Kilbourne
Samuel A. Kilbourne (1836-1881) was an American artist best known for his series of fish illustrations, "Game Fishes of the United States." He used realistic detail and vivid colors to vividly depict the various fish species native to the United States. His work is highly regarded not only in ichthyological studies, but also by fishing and nature lovers.
Samuel A. Kilbourne Biography
- Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1836 .
- He showed an interest in painting from a young age and taught himself how to paint.
- In the 1870s he began to specialise in illustrating fish.
- From 1877 to 1881, he published "Game Fishes of the United States."
- He died in 1881 (aged 45).
