Histoire de l'Arte Egyptiana is a comprehensive study of ancient Egyptian art, published in 1878 by Émile Prisse d'Avennes (1807-1879), a French archaeologist and one of the most important figures in Egyptology before the 20th century . Having worked as an engineer in Egypt, conducted archaeological excavations in the Nile Valley, and even adopted an Egyptian name, Prisse d'Avennes expressed his profound understanding of the culture through his architectural designs and vivid local illustrations. Explore life in ancient Egypt and experience this incredible ancient civilization through this book .
Emile Pris-Davenne Biography
- Born in Avène , France in 1807 .
- After a military career, he turned to Egyptology.
- He arrived in Egypt in 1827 and was employed as an engineer at the Egyptian Military Academy.
- During the 1830s and 1840s, he investigated and recorded numerous ruins and artifacts in Egypt.
- He took the Egyptian name Idris Effendi, learned Arabic, and practiced Islam, becoming deeply integrated into Egyptian culture.
- In the late 1840s, he returned to France and published monographs and illustrations on Egyptian art.
- He died in 1879 (aged 72).
