Albert Bierstadt
Albert Bierstadt was a 19th century German-American painter known for his spectacular landscapes of the American West. His work is characterized by detailed depictions and light effects, and he portrayed the western wilderness with a romantic beauty.
Albert Bierstadt Biography
- Born January 7, 1830 in Solingen, Germany
- In 1833 , he emigrated with his family to New Bedford, Massachusetts, USA.
- In 1853 , he returned to Germany to study painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf.
- In 1857 , he returned to America and began his expedition to the West.
- In 1863 , he produced "Lander's Peak, Rocky Mountains," which was highly praised.
- Died in New York on February 18, 1902 (aged 72)

His works are based on real landscapes, but also include idealized elements, giving the viewer an overwhelming sense of scale and emotion. His descriptive power stirred up the yearning and sense of adventure for unknown lands among people during the Western frontier era.
Albert Bierstadt's work represents a global expression of America's natural beauty and plays a significant role in 19th century art and history.
