The Birds of America
The Birds of America offers a glimpse into the world of birds through the eyes of avid birder and artist John James Audubon (1785-1851). The magnificent birds of all North America are vividly depicted through the lithographs of his masterpiece, The Birds of America, published in 1827.
John James Audubon Biography
- Born April 26, 1785 in Saint-Domingue, French territory (now Haiti)
- He has been interested in birds since he was a child and continues to observe them in nature.
- Immigrated to America in 1803
- In the 1820s, he traveled throughout North America, observing and sketching birds.
- Between 1827 and 1838 he published The Birds of America.
- Died in New York on January 27, 1851 (aged 65)

Audubon's painting style and achievements
Audubon's works are characterized by his life-size, dynamic depictions of birds in their natural environments . He not only accurately captured the morphology and ecology of birds, but also expressed their beauty and individuality in the fullest extent.
