John James Audubon Biography

  • Born April 26, 1785 in Saint-Domingue, French territory (now Haiti)
  • He has been interested in birds since he was a child and continues to observe them in nature.
  • Immigrated to America in 1803
  • In the 1820s, he traveled throughout North America, observing and sketching birds.
  • Between 1827 and 1838 he published The Birds of America.
  • Died in New York on January 27, 1851 (aged 65)

Audubon's painting style and achievements
