Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg

Christopher Wilhelm Eckersberg (1783-1853) was a Danish painter known for his eclectic collection of paintings , including landscapes, sailing ships, nudes, portraits and historical paintings . He was active during the Golden Age of Danish painting and is known as the "Father of Danish Painting".

Christopher Wilhelm Eckersberg Biography

Born on January 2, 1783 in Brokklo, Denmark. Studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1803 to 1810. Studied under Jacques-Louis David in Paris from 1810 to 1813. Studied classicism and landscape painting in Rome from 1813 to 1816. Became professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1818. Died in Copenhagen on July 22, 1853 (aged 70)
