Born May 16, 1864 in Copenhagen
Entered the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1879
From the late 1880s onwards, he began to specialise in interior paintings.
Died 16 February 1916, Copenhagen

Hammershøi's realistic depictions and precise composition perfectly express the inner beauty of Scandinavia. He began to receive high praise in his later years, and became known as a master of 20th century Scandinavian painting.
