Maurice Brazil Prendergast (1858-1924) was an American painter who worked in both oils and watercolors. He studied art in Paris for two years in the 1880s and was influenced by the work of the French Impressionists. As a result, he became one of the first American painters to embrace Post-Impressionism. Prendergast is known for his idyllic beach and park scenes, painted with mosaic-like colors.
