Charles Antoine Lemaire

Charles Antoine Lemaire (1800-1871) was a French botanist and botanical writer, known especially for his research on cacti. His book "Iconographie Descriptive des Cactées" (Illustrations and Descriptions of Cacti) contains many beautiful illustrations of cacti that he drew. These illustrations combine botanical accuracy with artistic beauty, and fully convey the charm of cacti.

Born on November 1, 1800 in Paris, France.
He studied at the Jardin des Plantes in Paris and devoted himself to the study of botany.
He specializes in the study of cacti and has discovered and described many new species.
He has published many papers and books on cacti , including "Iconographie Descriptive des Cactées."
He died in Paris on June 22, 1871 (aged 70).
