- He was interested in painting from an early age and taught himself how to paint.

- After the 1870s, he returned to Denmark and produced landscape and animal paintings.
- In the 1880s, he joined the Danish Impressionist group "Painters of Light."
- Died in Copenhagen on March 3, 1920 (aged 79)
