Michelangelo Buonarroti
Michelangelo Buonarroti was a master of art who was active during the Italian Renaissance from the late 15th century to the 16th century. As a sculptor, painter, architect, and poet, he demonstrated unparalleled talent in each field, and his creativity left a dazzling legacy in the history of Western art. In particular, his powerful and magnificent works, such as the Sistine Chapel ceiling and his "David," continue to awe people today.
Michelangelo Buonarroti Biography
- Born March 6, 1475 in Caprese, Italy (now Caprese Michelangelo)
- Around 1488, he began his painting training in the workshop of Domenico Ghirlandaio in Florence.
- 1490-1492: Studied at the Medici Sculpture Garden and was patronized by Lorenzo de' Medici
- 1498-1499: Created the Pieta, considered his first masterpiece
- 1501-1504: Created the statue of David
- 1508-1512: Commissioned by Pope Julius II to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel
- 1536-1541: Painted the altar mural "The Last Judgment" in the Sistine Chapel
- In his later years, he worked as the chief architect of St. Peter's Basilica.
- Died in Rome on February 18, 1564 (aged 88)
