Henri Edmond Cros was a painter active in France from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. Known for his work that makes full use of pointillism techniques, he was a central figure in the Neo-Impressionist movement.

Henry Edmond Cross Biography

Born on May 20, 1856 in the region of Daude in northern France.
He began producing pointillism-style artworks around 1884.
In 1886, he founded the Neo-Impressionist group with Paul Signac and Albert Dubois-Pillet.
In the 1890s, he produced a series of masterpieces using pointillism.
Died near Saint-Coup on May 16, 1910, aged 53

Cross played an important role in establishing the theory of Neo-Impressionism. He devised a way to arrange small dots, evenly spaced to create new light and color harmonies.

In his representative landscape paintings, he uses a technique in which he captures natural objects as a collection of minute dots. In flat compositions that eliminate the sense of perspective, he expresses subtle changes in color and the effects of light.

Together with the theorist Paul Signac, Cross was a powerful leader in Neo-Impressionism and greatly expanded the possibilities of pointillism, making him a central figure in the movement that had a major influence on later artists.
