Raffaello Santi (1483-1520) is one of the three great masters of the Italian High Renaissance , alongside Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. He was active both as a painter and an architect. Raphael's career as an artist began with his father, Giovanni Santi, who was the court painter in Urbino.
