Bijutsu Sekai (Art World)
"Bijutsu Sekai" is a collection of beautiful woodblock prints by the Japanese artist Watanabe Seitei ( 1851-1918). These works were published during the Meiji period and offer a diverse range of expression that combines traditional Japanese aesthetics with the influence of Western art .
Watanabe Seitei Biography
- Born in 1851 in Edo (present-day Tokyo).
- He studied traditional Japanese painting under Kikuchi Yosai and the Kano school.
- In 1878, he exhibited his work at the Paris World's Fair and won a bronze medal.
- In 1881, he won the second prize for virtuosity at the Domestic Industrial Exposition.
- Between 1890 and 1891, he published The Art World.
- He died in 1918 (aged 67).
