Gustav Klimt

Gustav Klimt was an Austrian painter who was active in Vienna from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. As one of the leading artists of Symbolism, his sensual and decorative style made him a central figure in the Vienna Secession, and had a major influence on fin de siècle art. His glittering paintings, which make extensive use of gold leaf, and his erotic female figures continue to fascinate many people even today.

Born on July 14, 1862 in Baumgarten, near Vienna, Austria.
In 1876, he entered the Vienna School of Applied Arts and Crafts to study architectural decoration.
In 1883, together with his brother Ernst, he founded the Artists' Company, which produced murals and other works.
In 1897, he founded the Vienna Secession and became its first president.
In the 1900s, he entered a period known as the "Golden Age" and established a decorative style using gold leaf.
Died in Vienna on February 6, 1918 (aged 55)

Klimt's painting style
