  • Born February 24, 1836 in Boston
  • He began to study painting in earnest around 1857.
  • He began his career as a printmaker in 1859.
  • From 1861, he walked the battlefields of the Civil War and became active as a war painter.
  • In the 1870s, he produced many masterpieces with seaside scenes as the theme.
  • Died September 29, 1910, at age 74, in Plotts Neck.
