Walter Hood Fitch
Walter Hood Fitch was a botanical artist and lithographer active in the 19th century in England . Not only did he contribute to botanical research, but his detailed and beautiful botanical illustrations are also highly regarded as works of art. In particular, the numerous botanical illustrations he created for the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew were praised by both the botanical and art communities for their accuracy and beauty .
Walter Hood Fitch Biography
- Born February 28, 1817 in Glasgow, Scotland
- Worked as a textile designer in the 1830s
- In 1837 he moved to London and became an assistant to the botanical artist William Jackson Hooker.
- In 1841 he became the painter for the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew .
- Died in London on January 14, 1877 (aged 59)
